Soil improvement
When soil is lacking in nutrients, poorly drained, waterlogged, too heavy, too acid or too alkaline - be it through extensive farming, drought or environmental stress - plants won’t reach their full potential and supplementing the soil becomes essential to ensuring crops thrive.
Natural rock minerals in finely ground or pellet form are obvious environment-friendly nutrient donor solutions for remineralizing farmland soils and horticultural growing media to improve the fertility of soil. They make ideal natural soil improvers, which can enhance the physical properties of the soil, improving structure, aeration, water infiltration and retention, etc., all of which indirectly affect plant growth and can boost crop yields.
For example, farmers and gardeners have been “liming” their fields and flowerbeds to regulate the pH levels of soils for generations using alkaline minerals such as calcium carbonate and dolomite. Volcanic aluminosilicates such as zeolite are effective nutrient binders, capable of attracting and retaining nutrients in the soil and improving water retention and drainage. Siliceous minerals like diatomite and wollastonite provide bioavailable silica to soils, boosting plant resilience to environmental stressors and strengthening plant tissues. Perlite, bentonite and moler are also successfully used to improve the physical and drainage properties of subsoils and horticultural substrates to improve resistance to disease, pests and environmental stress.
We offer a full range of natural mineral products for improving the quality of agricultural and horticultural soils to boost crop production, including:
- Bentonite
- Diatomaceous earth
- Dolomitic limestone
- Moler
- Perlite
- Wollastonite
- Zeolite
Our products can be used as standalone soil amendments or combined with your existing nutrient management and fertilizer formulations.
Our siliceous diatomaceous earths (DE) and wollastonites provide an excellent source of bioavailable silicon helping plants combat biotic and abiotic stresses. These Plant Available Silicons (PAS) are easily absorbed through the plant’s root system and can be implemented directly in the soil using ground equipment, foliar sprays or in spray tank mixes, or mixed with existing horticultural growing media.
We recommend our ImerFert™ DSi and ImerFert™ WSi grades for silica soil amendment.
Our North American dolomitic limes are the go-to solution for secondary macronutrient supplementation and optimized soil pH in agriculture and horticulture. Our no-dust, non-burning pelletized dolomitic limes - sold under our Lime-Rite™ (consumer) and Pro Lime™ (professional) brands - add calcium and magnesium to your soils and growing media for healthier plants and vegetables. They maintain soils in the ideal 6.5-7 pH range, ensuring maximum availability of nutrients, reducing the solubility of potentially toxic elements and optimizing soil microbe activity. Used in agricultural liming applications, Pro Lime spreads evenly with minimal dust and reduced clumping when used in mechanical spreaders.
Our highly pure European clinoptilolite zeolite, ImerFert™ Z, is an excellent nutrient binder solution for increasing nutrient and water retention in agricultural and horticultural soils and soil conditioning products.
Due to its high cation exchange capacity (CEC) and lattice-like structure, ImerFert Z attracts and retains macro and micronutrients such as potassium, calcium and magnesium, rendering them readily available to plants for stronger plants and better yields.
Highly porous, ImerFert Z absorbs moisture, acting as a reservoir, releasing water as and when needed and preventing waterlogging. ImerFert Z can be used as a standalone soil improver or mixed with conventional fertilizers, composts or digestates.
