Socal®
Multiple benefits for PVC
If you’re making Polyvinyl Chloride (PVC) for applications like window profiles, automotive parts, household and consumer goods or packaging, our Socal range of specialty precipitated calcium carbonate can improve fusion, gloss, impact strength and shaping properties.
It’s also an ideal additive for use in furniture, footwear, plastisol flooring and plastic piping. Socal can be used as a nucleating agent, a multifunctional filler, a processing aid and an impact modifier in PVC.
For window profiles, it improves luminosity, gives a smooth finish and a high gloss by improving melt elasticity and reinforcement. Impact resistance in rigid PVC is substantially improved with Socal, particularly at low temperatures, and it can be used to replace or supplement organic impact modifiers.
Use it as an effective flow aid, limiting the compaction of problem powders, or to provide viscosity control without any adverse effect on adhesion.
Socal comes in various grades and formulations. Talk to our plastics experts today about which one is right for you.
Key benefits
- Provides improved luminosity, a smooth finish and high gloss by improving melt elasticity and reinforcement.
- Improves impact resistance in rigid PVC, particularly at low temperatures, by reducing the temperature of transition between the tough and brittle states. It can be used to replace or supplement organic impact modifiers.
- Speeds up fusion enabling compounders to achieve high extrusion rates while minimizing fouling of extruder screws and associated plate out.
- Highly effective flow aid limiting the compaction of problem powders and also provides control of viscosity without any adverse effect on adhesion.
