Burnish, scrub & abrasion resistance
Imerys minerals improve the durability of the paint film and considerably increase burnish, wet scrub and abrasion resistance.
For durable coatings
We mine minerals across the world for their unique natural properties. Four minerals are particularly useful if you are looking to add scrub and abrasion resistance to paints and coatings.
The first is leucophyllite, a natural coalescence of chlorite, mica and quartz. Its combination of lamellar chlorite and mica particles with nodular shaped quartz particles imparts excellent scrub resistance in decorative coatings. Our leucophyllite ranges include Eco-PhylⓇ and PlastoritⓇ, which allow paint producers to lower resin content and to formulate at higher PVC levels without sacrificing scrub performance.
For industrial, protective and marine coatings, as well as architectural paints, wollastonite products such as our Nyad® range have a needle-like structure that reinforces coating films, providing durability, superior burnish, scrub and abrasion resistance, plus color retention.
Kaolin is a versatile mineral for the paints and coatings industry. Our Opacilite range significantly improves opacity without hampering scrub resistance, whereas NeoGen® MX allows formulators to achieve superior optical properties while maintaining excellent burnish and scrub resistance in matt decorative paints. The irregular structure and particle size distribution of NeoGen MX allows formulators to achieve superior optical properties while maintaining excellent burnish and scrub resistance in matte decorative paints.
Our products made from natural diatomaceous earth, such as EcoFlat®, are designed for matting low VOC decorative emulsion paints where, in addition to effective matting, its low oil absorption and high hardness confer excellent burnish and scrub resistance.
All these options and more could help improve the quality of your paints and coatings while lowering VOCs. Get in touch to discuss how they could boost your business.
