The Position

EHS & Continuous Improvement Officer, Matauri Bay Plant

Job Summary

People Management  

  • Cultivate and promote a strong EHS and continuous improvement culture across the plants

  • Leadership role ensuring compliance to EHS&CI within the site

  • Responsible for ensuring all required EHS&CI training is completed and in compliance with all  standards and policies

  • Development of teams in line with departmental and individual plans (competencies and skills) 

  • Facilitates managers and employees (including contractors) training and development (awareness, behavior based safety BBS) in EHS and in Continuous Improvement

  • Drive the consequence management process  

  • Demonstrate the ability to work with and influence team members functioning in a matrix environment.

Process Management  

  • Advise and support the site management team on all EHS&CI issues within their areas of  responsibility (incl. accident investigations, and risk assessments) 

  • Provide  guidance and direction in Environmental programs at the employee / supervisor level to ensure a common and effective approach.

  • Ensure all EHS&CI related data appropriately reported and validated

  • Monitor, track, and ensure legal compliance as per country laws and regulations

  • Maintain all logs and documentation associated with permits, licenses and regulatory requirements. 

  • Continuous Improvement program deployment across the industrial and supply chain operations by supporting the 2 legs of CI: improving Working conditions with must haves and generating margin improvement

  • Support analysis of processes and practices to enable safety / efficiency / quality / continuous improvement initiative generation, also with the support of Imerys Support Teams

  • Support generation of detailed continuous improvement initiatives across the plants to generate savings with the leadership of the management team

  • Monitor progress of continuous improvement projects and related savings, including process improvement, process modification, energy optimization

  • Develop and implement process improvement initiatives using methodologies such as Lean, Six Sigma, or Kaizen

  • Monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) and report on the progress of improvement initiatives

Performance Management  

  • Responsible for setting and achieving EHS&CI KPIs

  • Ensure all existing and new EHS protocols implementation at satisfactory compliance level at all sites within the country. Conduct gap analysis and periodic review on the EHS protocol compliances.

  • Ensure EHS&CI KPIs are implicitly understood and managed efficiently at an appropriate  level 

  • Responsible for EHS&CI data reporting coordination

  • Initiates local EHS&CI performance reviews, identifies trends, initiates and participates in problem-solving activities 

Functional Specific Management  

  • Conduct field observations, inspections, coaching, and guidance for shop floor employees and contractors. 

  • Supports local Management teams liaise with service providers and contractors to  ensure their compliance with local systems 

  • Responsible for managing the local plan of EHS&CI audits 

  • Share significant incidents and lessons  learned, share expertise, participate in cross-audits

  • Be responsible & provide expertise during the execution of CAPEX projects

  • Support the sites to identify Sustainable Development projects for annual Sustainable Development Challenge.
