The Position
Lab Technician (Quality)Job Summary
Test and analyze zirconia, silica, and sand samples before, during, and after processing to determine physical and chemical properties to ensure products meet quality standards and customer requirements.
Job Scope
Quality support for the zirconia and silica plants at the Greeneville, Tennessee site.
Key Tasks and Responsibilities
Prepare, test, and analyze samples in order to determine their content and characteristics, using laboratory instrumentation
Perform lab analysis on product shipments to ensure products are in specification
Operate and calibrate testing and measuring equipment to provide timely and accurate analytical results
Compile, review, record, and enter data for use by the production/logistics coordinator to ship products and generate COAs
Participate in quality program objectives and help to resolve quality issues
Report any out of spec material to quality manager and issue nonconformance reports
Perform essential housekeeping duties to maintain cleanliness and organization
Prepare and pack customer sample requests to review for their applications
Travel into the manufacturing plants to collect samples
Skills and Attributes Requirements
Ability to work independently or as part of a team
Attention to detail
Listening comprehension and verbal communication skills
Skill in use of computers and technical databases
Ability to evaluate, interpret, and analyze mineral data
Education/Experience Requirements
High School Diploma or GED
At least 2 years of experience in a lab or equivalent education
Environment
Sitting 25%
Standing 65%
Walking 10%
Frequently using near vision to view a computer screen
Frequently standing for extended periods of time
Occasionally walking in the lab to different work areas or to use different instrumentation
Occasionally lifting sample bags or sand buckets up to 60 lbs.
Most of day is spent inside, typically working alone in a climate controlled environment
Most of the noise level comes from ringing phones, fans, and lab instrumentation
