Technical Support Chemist

Job Summary

Purpose:

To conduct investigations in ceramic applications and to undertake support work in the use of minerals (principally kaolins, plastic clays, fluxes, complete bodies and glazes) in such applications and laboratory quality control testing’s .

Job Scope:

  • To provide laboratory support in carrying out ceramic application work in accordance with priorities and time scales determined by the Project Leader. 

  • To guarantee that all IMERYS quality standards are met.

  • To provide raw material and application knowledge to support the company’s existing business and to grow the business according to the global strategic plan.

  • To support projects to deliver new blends and practices in co-operation with personnel inside and outside the company.

  • To ensure that safe working practices are followed in accordance with company policy.

  • It is anticipated that work will normally be laboratory based but might be extended to pilot plant or production facilities on and off site as necessary.

  • To interpret and report the findings of technical work verbally and in writing within Imerys and externally.

  • Test and control the quality of all the raw materials (whether incoming, in stock or outgoing) to ensure that the materials to be blended, blended (in-stock) and final product to be dispatched are as per the specified parameters.

  • Do regularly all the calibration for all the equipment in the lab

  • Make the QC check for all the trucks of finished goods before going out of the plant.

  • Control receiving the raw materials at the plant.

  • Regular reporting of QC results.

  • Report unconformities of the products.

  • To be an active member of the Ceramic technical Service team.

  • To conduct and undertake projects in the areas of customer support, operations support, geographical expansion, product development and research and innovation.

  • To provide comprehensive support in the routine management of laboratory functions.

  • To ensure that the necessary resources are available and that time-scales are met.

  • Maintain and manage clean and safe laboratories that are up-to-date with all necessary records that aid production.

Job Specifications:

Qualifications:

  • BSC  in chemistry,  chemical engineering, science or other relevant subject.

  • To seek further academic qualifications and membership of professional bodies.

Experience:

  • Typically 4 years experience of a laboratory environment, minerals, ceramic formula and end-product knowledge.
