Job Summary

Job Summary

The Rail Fleet Manager will ensure the PMA rail fleet is properly utilized and sized to meet customer needs. This is a critical role in the Logistics organization that will require a strategic thinker who can also drive tactical objectives.  Key deliverables are: 5 year asset plan, fleet utilization and optimization, execution of repairs and returns, P&L management and balancing cost and service to customers.  

 

Key Tasks and Responsibilities:

  • Develop long term strategy for rail fleet and terminals & ensure rail fleet is properly sized

  • Support costing rail logistics solutions

  • Develop KPIs for rail fleet to ensure continuous improvement in service and cost

  • Manage lease agreements, repository and term dates

  • Develop annual budget that properly reflects renewals and returns

  • Identify opportunities to improve customer profitability on rail moves and drive implementation 

  • Maintain monthly fleet forecast for managing supply vs demand

  • Timely approval of all rail invoices

  • Optimize car repairs and ensure cars are returned at end termination of lease

  • Optimize rail expense while maintaining desired customer service level

  • Provide rail billing support as needed

  • Manage P&L for Milos Perlite terminal network

 

Skills and Attributes Requirements:

  • Ability to prioritize multiple tasks and deadlines

  • Strong ability and desire to work in a team and collaborate cross-functionally

  • Ability to improve the customer experience and internal efficiencies

  • A team player willing to take on increased responsibilities

  • Have extensive knowledge of various railcar types.

  • Knowledge of AAR and FRA regulatory requirements

  • Preferred but not required

  •  Proficiency in SAP 

 

Education/Experience Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in supply chain, engineering, or other technical degree

  • 5+ years of supply chain management experience,customs and logistics with a freight forwarder or large manufacturer.  Transportation related experience involving railroad,and railcar leasing companies.

  • 2-4 years’ experience in a manufacturing company

  • Working knowledge of rail and rail distribution networks.

 

Environment

Work performed in an office environment. Sitting frequently up to 70% of the work time. Standing and walking up to 30% of work time. Constantly communicating (written/oral).
