Job Summary

JOB PURPOSE (Job Objective)

The Reliability Technician and Inspector is a self-motivated member of the Maintenance Department that uses the plants predictive maintenance program and inspection process to minimize failure and downtime and maximize runtime on equipment. The Reliability Technician will take ownership of the plant’s Predictive Maintenance function, and act as the first filter to planned Preventive Maintenance routines in determining their need based upon inspections. This is an hourly position.

The Reliability Technician will have ownership of the Predictive Maintenance tools that they use as well as maintain preventative on them. They will also use their findings to track savings across different predictive and preventative practices.

CONTEXT (Nature and Scope of Activities)

  • Personal commitment to promoting safe working practices across the site, in the Maintenance department and Plant wide.
  • Provide leadership to maintain/improve reliability compliance.
  • Capable of reading and analyzing blueprints, manuals, verify measurements of mechanical plans and test the ascribed capabilities.
  • Participate in troubleshooting problem equipment to identify "bad actors" and the "run limiters", and develop plans to solve problems, eliminate the "bad actors" to increase overall equipment availability.
  • Knowledgeable around all plant systems
  • Ability to use critical thinking skills, be proficient with standard testing tools (calipers, depth gauge, hardness tester, strobe light, etc.)
  • Utilize computerized reliability tools and CMMS programs to properly plan and track certain reliability functions.
  • Detail-oriented to make sure that installed systems meet specific code requirements exactly.
  • Develop, organize/maintain and extract information from equipment historical records and data files.
  • Follow-up on equipment failures and co-lead RCAs and Breakdown Analysis.
  • Perform quality assurance / quality control on new installations and on major maintenance repairs of refurbished equipment.
  • Maintain an inspection plan that is in compliance with all applicable industry standards that will provide inspection services that prevent failures, and communicate findings and recommendations to Operations & Maintenance in a timely manner.
  • Support Operations by responding to reliability needs and emergency situations.
  • Part of the Maintenance On-call schedule
  • Apply problem-solving techniques to equipment and process problems.
  • Have a personal development plan to maintain the required skills and learn new ones, maintaining the required certifications as well as added skills sets, such as knowledge of failure modes, NDT techniques, etc., can increase value contribution.
  • Maintain an interest in technology tools that can assist in predicting failures: vibration analysis, ultrasonic, oil analysis, etc.
  • Assist with weekly PMs/Corrective as business needs require
  • Conduct Vibration Analysis surveys on critical equipment and interpret findings
  • Assist planners in prioritizing work orders in the backlog based on equipment condition.
  • Work with mechanical and electrical technicians in the plant to help assess equipment conditions and improvements.

·    Safety –Implementation of safe work practices when completing all predictive and preventative tasks

·      Personnel – Assist in the training of Precision Maintenance practices within the department.

  • Equipment - Ensure the reliability of plant equipment utilizing the predictive tools on site and the influence of any needed outside resources
  • Planning – Properly keep track of inspections and PMs by utilizing the plants CMMS. Make sure all Inspections are documented using a log for details and measurements.
  • Quality – Ensure that all critical work completed onsite is done to the highest maintenance standard including Precision Maintenance.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

  • Basic Knowledge around Reliability
  • Experience Leading/Teaching skills
  • Vibration Analysis knowledge a plus
  • Oil Analysis knowledge a plus
  • Experience around RCAs and Breakdown Analysis
  • Intermediate Computer Skills, Including all Microsoft Office tools
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules and equipment manuals.
  • Experience with utilizing a work order system within a CMMS.
  • Experience troubleshooting, proposing solutions.

DEGREE OF SUPERVISION OR DIRECTION

Minimal supervision is expected. The jobholder must be a self-starter with the ability to accomplish maintenance and testing on their own. The Reliability Technician must be able to plan his daily work as well as offer solutions to issues that arise.
