Health and Safety
Respects all site safety rules. Ensures risk assessments are reviewed, adhered to and are applicable for all work performed by the post holder and those under the supervision of the post holder. Ensures all tasks are performed in compliance with site regulations and procedures such as authorisation to work, permit to work and lock-off.
Housekeeping of all areas in which work is conducted.
Main Tasks
- Acting as a First Aider at all times
- Specific knowledge of safety procedures: Statutory Health and Safety as well as the Company Health and Safety documents. In particular, the Production Supervisor/Technician is the key person in the operation of the Permit to Work system, (Authorisation to Work or ATW), Electronic Work Systems (EWS)
- Must use knowledge of plant and process to lock off all relevant items of equipment when work is being carried out on them. Jobs requiring a permit to work must have a visit from a Production Supervisor/Technician before they commence and after they have been completed
- Responsible for maintaining raw material supply and cancelling ordered loads in the event of breakdowns, full silos etc when no senior production personnel are present
- Contribute to all plant improvement and upgrade projects by providing input gained by on the job experience
- Operationally competent to run all processes controlled from the control room and associated services, without direct supervision and with good quality results
- Knowledge and understanding of the process computer and logic diagrams. Knowledge of interlocks within the process
- Controlling the process using SPC charts wherever possible. Understanding charting, taking actions and keeping clear records
- Ensuring the production of good quality product through correct control of degree of burning and mix of raw materials. Knowledge of Internal Product Specification sheets; understanding of quality tests and implications of process actions on quality
- Fault finding and first line maintenance on all plant equipment including Kiln, Gas Analyser, others as required and requested by Maintenance Department
- Conducts safety observations/dialogues to audit compliance by others working on site in the wearing of PPE and the adherence to safety procedures. (Imerys employees and contractors)
- To maintain a comprehensive shift log, noting operational, quality, safety and environmental information for record keeping and data logging as required
- Carry out plant tours and physically check equipment and process. To work with the philosophy of preventative maintenance in trying to anticipate breakdowns before they occur. Record observations from plant tours against the relevant check list and where required, generation of COSWIN user requests
- Responsible to perform trouble shooting on the whole plant to find the causes of problems (Mechanical/Electrical/Automation/Material) including kiln gas analyser and undertaking actions to fix them. Clears blockages, use of hand tools, and generation of COSWIN user requests
- Able to fire the kiln gun and clear rings
- Acting as the Fire Marshal for the Main Office building
- Receives and logs raw materials, including but not restricted to lime, heavy fuel oil, and rejects (from external contractors). Assist with unloading where necessary
- Fill the cement mill hoppers with clinker to match production requirements. Drive the overhead gantry crane. Check the crane grab, bonds, cab and controls. Extract from the clinker pile in such a way as to retain the shape of the pile and minimise ‘dead’ amount at the end. To rotate stock and use up older clinker or crushed lumps when necessary
- Obtain product samples from silos, this involves climbing steep high stairs/ladders and carrying a product sample back to the lab
- Assists the other on duty Supervisor/Technician in whatever duties necessary to keep the plant running well. These include but are not restricted to: burner changes, firing the gun, clearing blockages, resetting trips and overloads
- Movement of goods and skips by forklift truck when required. Inspection and defect reporting on trucks
- Reprocessing reject material. Keeping records of where product is recycled to, as well as the quantity, rate of recycling, quality checks
- Housekeeping, cleanliness, tidiness. Maintains a clean safe work area. Out on plant, cleans where necessary and notifies day workers if cannot be done personally
- Will actively participate in their own training and development, and in the training and development of others
- Responsibility to manage people working under their supervision
- Responsibility to conduct risk assessments and be proactive in the development of safe working procedures
- To do internal quality and environmental audits as the function is evolved and the training provided
- Responsible for shift manning to ensure adequate cover following management guidelines
PURPOSE AND PERFORMANCE CRITERIA
- Maximise plant throughput (Raw mill, KILN, Cement mill) in order to meet demand and within quality parameters
- Maximise in-specification clinker to increase plant capacity and diminish costs
- Minimise length of breakdowns throughout the whole plant
- No environment problems. Immediate reaction in case of problems (dust emissions top of silos, stacks, etc.)
- No accidents due to lack in applying safety procedures (lock off, permits to work, risk assessments, red tickets, etc.)
- Perform efficient troubleshooting and undertaking actions to fix it
- Records and feedback made accurately and clearly on several supporting events, information or data (log books, breakdown hours, stock files, permit to work, parameters, shift hand-over….)
JOB SPECIFICATIONS
Education and Experience requirements
- Diploma with 8 yrs. experience in Production line or B. Tech in chemical engineering with 5 yrs. experience in production line, BSc degree with 10 experience in production line.
- Preference will be given for cement industry or refractory industry professionals.
