Job Summary

JOB SUMMARY:

Responsible for Open Pit and Underground mine geology knowledge, drilling, analytical data compilation, exploration geology data, deposit structural geology knowledge, ore quality knowledge, resource modeling, and resource/reserve preparation and reporting. Developing grade control plans and implementing plans on site during mining campaigns. Assisting with managing mining and core drilling contractors for NYCO.

JOB SCOPE:

  • Mine geology, ore grade control and resource modeling for NYCO Minerals mine operations.

  • Manage and execute sample collection and preparation programs. Includes in the field sample collection, composition, and initial processing steps: crushing, pulverizing, splitting, and distributing samples to individual labs.

    • Exploration core, blast hole drill cuttings, hand samples, and Sampling System samples. Includes writing/reviewing operating procedures, managing samples in various stages, logging and cutting core, crushing, splitting, pulverizing, magnetic separation and LOI.

    • Supervising exploration drill programs, production drilling, contractors, interns and/or temporary workers

  • Survey blast hole drill pattern with sub cm accuracy GPS and import locations into a blast database for shot and sample location and control.

  • Maintain a drone-supported reconciliation program which will track recovery factors and mine production and in support of resource and reserve reporting, and the verification of geologic models vs. actual production.

  • Maintain an ore quality control program in order to provide consistent, high quality ore to the plant.

  • Short term planning and liaison with Mine Supervisor for ore control

    • Mine planning utilizing modeling software

    • Creating surfaces using monthly drone flights and infill/blast hole data

    • Reconciliation ore requirements and plant usage.

    • Short term mine planning – possible multi-mine planning

    • Assist with laying out mine design lines: benches, ramps, permit lines

  • Budget Responsibility: Manage travel, project and consultant budgets.

  • Management Responsibility: Adhere and improve Imerys Safety systems. Manage consultants and contractors.

KEY TASKS & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Consolidate and/or conduct and report mine geology mapping and interpretation projects on a regular basis to support resource modeling, ore control and reconciliation.

  • Develop and demonstrate geologic knowledge and skills relative to being the regional expert on the minerals and geology for the deposits within the operations area.

  • Support drilling programs at each mine in order to develop data as part of resource modeling and mine planning objectives.

  • Understand, compile and evaluate analytical data to be used for block modeling.

  • Develop and demonstrate expertise and knowledge required to support the CP for Resource and/or Reserve reporting.

  • Assist NYCO sites in the evaluation and development of ore grade information, ore balance data and ore scheduling to support quality and ore requirements.

  • Maintain a reconciliation program which will track recovery factors and mine production and in support of resource and reserve reporting, and the verification of geologic models vs. actual production.

  • Support evaluation of mineral properties, acquisitions, and mine development options.

  • Support permitting, environmental and reclamation activities.

  • Support/manage mining contractors for NYCO sites.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

  • BS degree in Geology or Geological Engineering

  • 2 years of experience working as an Exploration or Mining Geologist.

  • Proficient at Excel and Google Suite

ENVIRONMENT:

  • Work is performed in a mining environment exposed to seasonal climate conditions; dust, noise, and uneven, slippery surfaces.
