The Position

Group Data Steward

Job Summary

The Data Steward role is responsible for aligning data requirements and processes with global data governance rules and standards. Focus will be on the General, Organization and Purchasing data domains (Legal Entities, Reporting Units, Site Locations, Suppliers, etc) and how this data is used and flows through the various tools used by the business (BI, SRM, ERP, etc).

KEY TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Develop and maintain a solid understanding of the existing Structures, Rules, Policies, Glossaries, Models... related to Data Reference and Master Data tables (incl. merging rules for Golden Record creation in the MDM tool)

  • Promote data accuracy and adherence to global governance practices, as well as driving acceptance of globally accepted data standards and policies

  • Transform the Data documentation in Data Quality control checks and corrections enabling the creation of master data Golden records using data extractions, master data management tools, matching algorithms and other stewardship techniques

  • Based on data quality objectives set by Data Owners, Business Areas (BAs) and Business Intelligence (BI) needs, define and execute data quality improvement plans by relevant data domains and data sources in close coordination with System Owners, BA Data Stewards and Data Source Administrators

  • Initiate and lead continuous data quality improvement exercises

  • Define, implement and follow data quality KPIs into a dedicated reporting following up on

  • Responsible for defining and implementing policies and procedures for the day-to-day operational and administrative management of systems and data with the Data Source Operators — including 

    • creation, storage, processing, enrichment and transmission of data to internal and external systems

    • defining the values, ranges, and parameters that are acceptable for each data element

    • Privacy, Security, and Risk Management (retention, archival, and disposal requirements / compliance with regulations)

    • the criteria for data access authorization based on role and/or the individual, working closely with IT to establish controls.

  • Animate and coordinate the Data Stewards located in the Business Areas of Imerys

  • Advise on various projects and initiatives to ensure that any data related changes and dependencies are identified, communicated and managed

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Computer Science, Audit, Risk Mitigation, Engineering or a related field

  • 5 to 7+ years of experience with a strong data management background who understands data, how to ingest data, proper data use/consumption, data quality, and stewardship

  • 3 to 5+ years of experience working with data in the commercial domain (e.g., Customer, Product, Market, etc), preferably in a minerals-related industry

  • Strong knowledge and understanding of master data elements and processes

  • Ability to see the big picture and then break down into tactical solutions/actions

  • Strong communication skills with the ability to persuade/influence others at all levels of the organization

  • An ability to obtain buy-in from other Stakeholders to think beyond the ‘way things work today’

  • Proven ability to handle multiple projects and duties of different urgency and importance at the same time

  • Self-starter who welcomes responsibility, along with the ability to thrive in an evolving organization and an ability to bring structure to unstructured situations

  • Ability to arbitrate on difficult decisions and drive consensus through a diplomatic approach

  • Very good writing and speaking English level
