It’s time to recycle better
The planet needs better ways to recycle plastic. Polyethylene and polypropylene are some of the most abundant plastics around, however, they are hard to recycle, even for post-industrial purposes. This is because they’re immiscible, which means they don’t mix together well, even after processing. This can lead to breaks and cracks in finished plastic products made of recycled polyethylene and polypropylene.
To address precisely this issue, we developed ImerLink, an innovative engineered solution designed to make it simpler to recycle polyolefins like polyethylene and polypropylene. Using ImerLink, recycled polyolefin materials that would otherwise not be compatible can now be processed without any difficulty and then used in higher-value applications that meet key performance and cost requirements.
Imerlink: A Pioneer recycling solution
Aligned with the European Commission’s plan for a more circular economy, ImerLink enables recyclers to reduce the sorting of different polyolefins before recycling them, and can now use mixed post-consumer and industrial waste to create high-quality recycled plastic. By reducing the amount of sorting required, less energy is consumed and less CO2 is emitted during the PE and PP recycling process. Its significant impact on recycling and circularity has earned it the status of Imerys Pioneer product, a certification we give to products that provide the highest social and environmental contribution to the downstream value chain, while also demonstrating low environmental impact in their production phase. It is our highest rating for products and services with outstanding sustainability performance compared to the reference on the market.
