Thailand – Additional Revenue for Local PopulationsSalted eggs are a staple of the Thai diet. Though usually preserved in brine, they can also be covered with kaolin to allow the salt to seep into the eggs slowly and to protect them from high temperatures.
The Imerys site in Ranong (Minerals for Ceramics) has been involved in the local production of salted eggs, hoping this initiative can put the host community on the map. The local community, together with Imerys staff, meets twice or three times a month to produce about 2000 eggs in only four hours. This project has helped boost the income of the local people and it has strengthened Imerys Ceramics’ relationship with the Ranong community of southern Thailand.
