Vietnam – Greening a Local School

Some schools in Vanphu, Vietnam, where Imerys produces calcium carbonate, do not have the resources to plant trees or cultivate their schoolyards. One such primary and secondary school is located in close proximity to an Imerys site.

Aware of some of the nuisances the students faced due to the lack of trees, such as excessive sunlight in the classrooms, lack of shade to cool off, and dust and noise from surrounding roads, our team took these problems as an opportunity.

Thinking of the embellishment of the neighborhod, our Pigments for Paper site has undertaken a forestation project. Flamboyants, a symbolic tree for the Vietnamese people, and the Dracontomelums, a large shade tree, have been planted around the classrooms. It is the intention of the Imerys team to extend this initiative to other local schools.
Sustainable Development 2011

Our Sustainable Development policy supports the Group’s long-term strategy. Actions are guided by a three-year plan that sets goals for each of our areas of activity. The three-year plan also provides for gradual, continuous performance improvement.

Environmental focus

We work to reduce our environmental impact and use natural resources efficiently. We control our activities’ impact on the environment and set up management systems that allow us to improve our performance continuously.

Social Focus

Health and Safety, Human Resources, Ethic, and dialogue with our neighboring communities are among our main corporate social responsibility priorities.
