Through its support to photography, Imerys wishes to express its social responsibility and promote access to culture and diversity.
Whether professional photographers depicting the history of minerals or amateur photographers immortalizing the Group social initiatives, minerals, men who transform them and their environment are an endless source of inspiration. Photographic competitions are organized to promote various initiatives done with the sites’ local communities, as in Brazil with the project Expedição Imerys.
Imerys will use the opportunity of its partnership concluded with the RMN-Grand Palais (Paris) on their photographic exhibitions, starting from 2016, to inspire and mobilize internal and external creative forces on topics related to education in particular.
The first photo exhibition related to Imerys’ partnership has honored the work of Seydou Keïta (1921-2001), now considered one of the greatest photographers of the second half of the twentieth century. Showing off his subjects to their best advantage, his mastery of framing and light, and the modernity and inventiveness of his compositions ,all earned him a huge success. He retired in 1977 after having been the official photographer of a Mali that had become independent. His work constitutes an exceptional testimony to the Malian society of his time. Exhibition organised by the Réunion des Musées Nationaux – Grand Palais with the collaboration of the Contemporary African Art Collection (CAAC) – The Pigozzi Collection.
In 2017, the Rmn-Grand Palais photo exhibition will be devoted to Irving Penn (1917- 2009), an American photographer, known for his fashion photography, beauty, and also famous for his portraits and still lifes.
