Asia Pacific – Building relationships of trust with the communities around sites: coordinating a Regional Minerals DayLate March 2010, the Pigments for Paper & Packaging Asia-Pacific division coordinated the organization of a Regional Open Day. Eight countries were involved through 15 plants plus the Singapore and Shanghai offices. The goal was to help local authorities and populations’ understand our businesses.
The organization was relatively simple with an operation manager chosen by country and four conference calls to coordinate matters. “Guided tours were organized about everywhere. Plants were encouraged to talk about conversion techniques, but also about quarry remediation and biodiversity preservation.
The Japanese and Taiwanese teams, taking advantage of the open days to welcome their customers and suppliers, held technical and scientific conferences. The Indian and Vietnamese units turned the spotlight on the environment with tree-planting ceremonies. In China, Malaysia and Singapore, school and university students were made aware of local Imerys plant’s role in papermaking.
Most sites were opening their doors to the public for the first time and substantial measures were taken to guarantee everyone’s safety.
